Scotia Insurance helps children achieve through ScotiaMINT scholarships
Kingston, Jamaica – November 24, 2022 – Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company (Scotia Insurance) has awarded 21 scholarships to support secondary and tertiary-level students for this academic year.
Through it’s ScotiaMINT Education Wealth Plan Scholarship programme, the company invested $3,150,000 in funding to finance the academic journeys of children of its customers who are ScotiaMINT policyholders.
Kerry-Ann Chong, Director, Sales and Service with Scotia Insurance, said the ScotiaMINT scholarship programme is an additional benefit to parents who have taken steps to secure their child’s financial future through investing in a ScotiaMINT policy.
“It gives us great joy to be able to support the educational pursuits of these students and provide financial support to cover school expenses. Back-to-school is usually a season of added pressure for many families, and we are grateful to have been able to alleviate the financial burden associated for these individuals,” she commented. “Scotiabank is a global financial organisation that believes in providing opportunities for young people to advance themselves in society, and we are committed to implementing initiatives that remove barriers to their success. We wish the awardees every success in their educational pursuits as they dream, believe, and achieve,” she continued. Scholarships valued at $150,000 each were awarded to assist students with tuition fees, accommodation, stationery, and other school expenses at the beginning of the academic year.
Nicole Senior, one of the parents whose child benefited from the scholarship, lauded Scotia Insurance for its commitment to youth development and helping parents to adequately prepare for funding their child’s future. “My daughter and I would like to thank you and Scotia Insurance for investing in her through your scholarship program. We deeply appreciate it. This scholarship came at a time when it was desperately needed and will be used accordingly,” she said. The lucky recipients were selected via a random draw conducted among ScotiaMINT customers who consistently made the required minimum monthly payment for at least one year to their policies. ScotiaMINT is one of Jamaica’s long-term financial plans which offers tax-advantaged benefits to customers invested for five years or more, without the need for medical exams.
Through this product, policyholders are automatically approved for life insurance and accidental death coverage for greater protection. According to Chong, through ScotiaMINT, Scotia Insurance continues to bring goals to life and help parents protect themselves and their families while planning for their child’s education.
