Debra Lopez Spence
President Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance
Debra Lopez-Spence was appointed to the role of President, Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company (SJLIC) effective August 1, 2021.
Debra has over 20 years’ experience in increasingly senior roles in sales leadership, strategic planning, coaching and general management that spans wealth management, insurance, brokerage, retail small and medium sized enterprises and corporate banking in Jamaica, New Zealand and Australia.
Results focused and committed to excellence, Debra is a dynamic leader with an extensive background in turning around business lines as well as building and leading world-class teams. Known to be purpose-driven, energetic and enthusiastic, Debra strives to be a catalyst for enabling team members to achieve more than they thought possible.
Debra re-joined Scotia Group Jamaica (SGJ) in 2018 as Vice-President, Sales and Service at Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company Limited. Prior to that she was Vice-President of Small and Medium Enterprises at Scotiabank, as well as held senior positions at CIBC First Caribbean and NCB Capital Markets.
As President of Scotia Insurance, Debra is responsible for developing and executing the strategic and business plans for the business line, with a strong focus on distribution, customer value proposition, operational infrastructure, financial and operational risk management as well as talent management and retention. She will hold primary accountability for the growth and profitability of individual life, group life and the pension businesses, to support the strategic goals of Scotia Group Jamaica, while ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory guidelines, policies and procedures.
Debra holds an MBA from Florida International University, and a BSc, with Honours, in economics and finance from Barry University. She is the proud mother of two, Emanuelle and Noah and currently serves as a Director on the boards of Ackee For Charity, Jamaica Boxing Board and Scotia Foundation.
Kerry-Ann Chong
Senior Manager, Sales & Service
Kerry-Ann Chong is a seasoned insurance professional with over sixteen (16) years of experience spanning sales promotion, leadership, and strategy. During her tenure with Scotiabank, she has served in progressively senior roles and has built an outstanding track record of delivering value for both customers and the business over the past two decades. This robust expertise has resulted in the successful implementation of several new products and systems in her current capacity of Director Sales & Service at Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company (SJLIC).
Kerry-Ann holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Summa Cum Laude) from the University College of the Caribbean (UCC) and numerous professional certifications.
Manager, Policy Administration and Client Services
Mr. Denton Campbell joined the Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance family in January 2004 and now holds the position of Manager, Policy Administration and Client Services. He brings with him a wealth of experience in life insurance, having spent in excess of 20 years in the industry prior to joining Scotia Insurance. While at Scotia Insurance, he has led several customer database upgrade and policy digitization projects as well as manage the introduction of new products to customers. His previous role as Business Analyst he has been keen in managing operational systems to facilitate smooth company to client interface.
Denton holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Leicester and also holds the Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).
Senior Manager & Comptroller - Insurance
Michelle Scott joined Scotiabank in 2003 as a Management Trainee in the Comptroller Department, after working for two years in the British Channel Islands in the Captive Insurance Industry.
Over the years she has held progressively senior financial positions in the bank including Assistant Comptroller – Subsidiaries as well as Manager, Financial Reporting at the Scotia Building Society.
Mrs. Scott joined the SJLIC management team in December 2013 and currently leads the finance team.
Mrs. Scott successfully achieved the ACCA designation in 2002 and is currently a fellow of that organisation.
Joined Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance in February 2005 as Operations Supervisor bringing a wealth of experience in Life Insurance Operations, having spent in excess of 11 years in the industry.
She has also held the role of Senior Claims Examiner at Scotia Insurance, where she adjudicated on claims for the Individual Life, Retirement, Annuity and Group Creditor Insurance portfolios.
Sandra holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree from the University of the West Indies; and is a Fellow of Life Management Institute (FLMI) and Associate of Customer Service (ACS) designations.
She is a member of the IAJ Life Underwriters & Claims Administrators Committee.
McLoy Campbell
Project Manager
McLoy, as Projects Manager, has responsibility for planning, coordination and implementation of Projects along with oversight of data analytics.
He joined the Scotia Group in 2001 and has moved through several areas including Information Technology Help Desk Services, Systems Administration & Support and Project Management. He has a wealth of knowledge in Systems Architecture and has performed lead roles in core initiatives, including implementation of the first two Scotiabank Financial Centres in Jamaica (at Fairview and Constant Spring) and renovation with the implementation of Activity Based Working at the Scotiabank Jamaica Head Office building. He has also led other implementations relating to Automated Banking Machines , Branch Servers, Networking and Software Engineering locally and internationally.
He is well known within the Scotia Group and with external partners for being creative and meticulous in his undertakings.
Throughout his career McLoy has been celebrated as a 'high octane' performer and received accolades such as Scotia Group's Runner up People’s Choice Supporter in 2013 , Best of the Best Top Individual Performance in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021.
McLoy holds a BBA in Finance as well as Information Technology certification (including Cisco CCNA, CompTIA A+, Microsoft Operating Systems and Application Platforms).
